Kroger has begun its $10 million expansion project at its South Monroe St. location.
Demolition of the vacant ACO hardware store started in February as Kroger intends to create an additional 24,000 square feet to its store, said Brandon Barrow, consumer affairs manager for Kroger.
Construction should be completed by December, and Kroger will offer a new deli, bakery, meat and seafood counter while expanding the grocery section and frozen food aisles.
The project also will include moving the recycling center to the front of the store and remodeling the pharmacy.
When the expansion is complete, the store, located at 800 S. Monroe St., will be roughly 80,000 square feet. “When it is done, it will be like a brand new store,” Mr. Barrow said.
