Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins is scheduled to open next month.
Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins is scheduled to open next month. Renovation work began last week on the former White Castle and Church’s Chicken location at 1520 N. Telegraph Rd. and the owners hope to have a grand opening by the second week of June, said Arun Kumar, an operating partner with Motown Hospitality Group, which will run the restaurant.
“We haven’t even put a sign up and people already know it’s going to be a Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins and that makes me very happy,” Mr. Kumar said, who is partnered with Karim Khowaja, Amish Patel, Kardo Rasha and Saj Khatau, who operate successful restaurants in Chicago.
Mr. Kumar said the franchise is in the process of aggressively expanding in the metro Detroit area and his company has acquired 13 locations in the past year to turn into restaurants. Motown Hospitality Group purchased the Telegraph Rd. location from White Castle in April and it will be the first restaurant to open of the 13, he said. Belleville will be the next location.
“We’re really excited about the Monroe location,” Mr. Kumar said. “Monroe has really been growing and I was very keen about opening one here. I know the traffic.”
Mr. Kumar, of Sterling Heights, used to operate 10 Arby’s restaurants in the Detroit-area, including the Monroe location, so he is familiar with the area.
The restaurant will offer full menu items from both Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins with a staff of 25, he said. The company is partnering with Michigan Works in Monroe to hire locally.
Representatives from White Castle could not be reached.
